Crew Members (and parents)!

At a prior Crew meeting we agreed to “Go Ape” in Rockville, MD (www.goape.com). Based on the calendar, it looks like Sat, May 12th is the day! We’ll book a morning adventure and then head over to Blue Ribbon BBQ for some (late) lunch (www.blueribbonbbq.net/). The cost of “Go Ape” will be $40 per person and lunch costs will be on your own. The website will answer a lot of your questions about the course, what to wear and safety. For a video tour … http://bitly.com/jYi2GJ.

SIGN UP BY EMAIL and pay $40 in advance (make checks payable to Troop 1346) by the end of the PLC on Mon, Apr 30 (we have to pay in advance when we book) or mail your check to me at the address below. Also, please fill out and return the attached permission slip.

Please keep in mind that “Go Ape has the following supervision ratio requirements: 1 participating adult for every 2 kids between 10 and 15 years of age and 1 participating adult for every 5 kids between 16 and 17 years of age.  Although categorized as adults by “Go Ape”, we will consider our 18-20 yr old Venturers as youth for Crew supervision requirements. There is a minimum height of 4 feet 7 inches.

We will split into groups of 12-15 for the training sessions.  While the other groups wait we will play lawn games such as beach volleyball, corn hole, bocce ball and frisbee. The sessions will be back to back so people will finish the course one after the other.  The sessions are broken out for the safety briefing and for course flow purposes, but everyone will be on the course at the same time.

Our group will be equipped with harnesses, pulleys and carabiners, and given a 30 minute safety briefing and training and then let loose into the forest canopy, free to swing through the trees.  Of course, instructors are always on hand, regularly patrolling the forest. The course is made up of five individual sections, each section taking you higher into the forest canopy and finishing with a zip line more exciting than the previous one! There are 40 crossings/obstacles which include, rope ladders, net bridges, tarzan swings and 5 zip lines. The course takes about 2-3 hours to complete but there is no limit on the time it takes our group to complete the course.

Come on and “go Ape”!
